My Personal Story
Though my cultural background is Dutch, I was born in the tropics, in what was then Netherlands New Guinea and is now West Papua. After living in various parts of the world, including North Africa, my family came to Australia when I was 10 years old. We lived for 5 years in Queensland and then moved to Sydney
When I left school I started my working life in science – I worked in a microbiology laboratory and got the relevant qualifications as a biological laboratory technician.
I was married young and had three children in my twenties.
One of the main challenges I have had in life was the diagnosis of one of my beloved children with Leukaemia at only 5 years of age. She relapsed 5 years later and had a bone marrow transplant, which saved her life
This experience gave me deep understanding of grief and loss, and what it is to be a carer. I learned how grief and loss are constant companions on our life journeys, not only in death, but also in the smaller losses we face on a daily basis
After raising my children I studied theology. I had intended to become a clergy person, but the Universe had other plans and my career path first led me to working with people with intellectual disabilities. The main part of my career, however, has been in the aged care sector.
After this, I was led to use my intuitive and healing gifts and skills to start Inner Gold Healing where I now use my gifts to to facilitate healing sessions and to mentor aged care workers.
