Mentoring

I mentor aged care workers to help them stay healthy and strong in what is a rewarding though at times challenging and draining career.

With extensive experience in the aged care sector I know and understand the stresses aged care workers are under and the effect this can have not only on their own well-being, but also the care they provide for the residents they support.

The aged care sector has its share of issues that can affect work satisfaction and morale for individuals and the team as a whole, and cause a flow-on effect for managers and providers.

These include:

  • end of life issues
  • grief and loss
  • work-related stress
  • burnout
  • staff attrition

I assist you through –

  • deep listening
  • problem solving
  • teaching mindfulness techniques, self healing, and wellness tools
Healing

We all have the ability to bring about healing in our own lives:  through the shared approach of the healing I facilitate, each person connects with their natural and inner healing power to receive greater meaning and power in their life

I also give spiritual and intuitive counselling, which draws on my ability to connect with things that are still unconscious for you, but you are ready to have revealed, process and integrate

After their session clients tell me they feel physically and emotionally lighter,

their faces and bodies appear transformed as they shine with their inner light

In both healing and hypnotherapy sessions I use guided imagery and Jungian active imagination techniques. With my background and training in theology and comparative religion, and my understanding of psychological processes, I assist you make sense of your life and how it is part of the journey of your soul.

My Personal Story

Though my cultural background is Dutch, I was born in the tropics, in what was then Netherlands New Guinea and is now West Papua. After living in various parts of the world, including North Africa, my family came to Australia when I was 10 years old. We lived for 5 years in Queensland and then moved to Sydney

When I left school I started my working life in science – I worked in a microbiology laboratory and got the relevant qualifications as a biological technician.

I was married young and had three children in my twenties.

One of the main challenges I have had in life was the diagnosis of one of my beloved children with Leukaemia at only 5 years of age. She relapsed 5 years later and had a bone marrow transplant, which saved her life

This experience gave me deep understanding of grief and loss, and what it is to be a carer. I learned how grief and loss are constant companions on our life journeys, not only in death, but also in the smaller losses we face on a daily basis

After raising my children I studied theology. I had intended to become a minister, but the Universe had other plans and my career path first led me to working with people with intellectual disabilities. The main part of my career, however, has been in the aged care sector where I first worked as an activities officer. After that, I managed a dementia day care centre, facilitated dementia education, and headed up a community legal centre that specialised in aged care rights
