We are living in a difficult and uncertain time at the moment. It is scary to see an invisible thing, a virus that is not visible to the naked eye, seemingly envelop the world, and creating so much chaos.
In Australia, since July/August last year, we lived through bushfires, we then had flooding, after the blessed rains came, and now this.
The Hindu goddess Kali is often associated with chaos and destruction. She wears animal skins and a necklace of skulls, and is a raw force of nature. Kali also symbolizes the Crone, and Mother Earth; she is known as Kali Ma, or the Divine Mother. When Kali releases her force, we can be assured destruction is real, and new life and re-growth are promised.
In all this chaos we can see the force of Kali on our earth, we can see her destruction, not only on nature, but on humankind itself.
We are often willing to put up with a great deal when we are not personally affected by chaos. How many of us thought we would change our ways after the fires, to take more care of our Earth? How many of us saw our earth and her animals differently, as a part of us, and not as separate beings or entities? How many of us felt the suffering of Mother Earth, and her creatures? Or did we just move through it with the end in sight only for ourselves?
Out of chaos and destruction comes regrowth. We see that in our beautiful Australian bush. Many animal souls have been sacrificed, and human too. We see the destruction on human life happening again with this virus.
Let us be part of the healing of the spirit of our own kind, humankind, and of all the creatures of the world, and Mother Earth herself.
Let us not squander this opportunity to be a part of the solution, and not the problem.
Let us work actively towards wholeness, beginning with ourselves, our own place in our beautiful world, our own families, and so, together, create a new world.
